Sign the Petition to Halt IETF Misconduct

To: The ISOC Board of Trustees

We, the undersigned, are strongly opposed to the cronyism, conflict of interest, and apparent fraud being conducted by certain Internet Society (ISOC) IETF Officials against the following members of the ISOC and participants in the ISOC IETF Activity:

  1. Dean Anderson is the long time President of the League for Programming Freedom and founder of AV8 Internet, Inc, with over 20 years work experience including work at other standards groups such as The Open Software Foundation. Anderson was silenced for asserting that RFC3979 is the policy of the IETF (it is) and that TCP Anycast was unstable (it is), and uncovering that a discredited assertion in a controversial draft originated from SORBS (it was).
  2. Dr. Dan Bernstein is well known for writing the "DJBDNS" DNS software and many other topics. Bernstein was silenced for discovering that a DNS "AXFR Clarify" draft modified the AXFR protocol and that BIND (a DNS software promoted by Paul Vixie) was changed to exploit this change. Proponents of the "AXFR Clarify" had previously given assurances that no protocol changes were made by the draft. The BIND changes demonstrate that the authors (affliliated with BIND, Vixie) knew of the changes and intended to deceive other DNS implementors.
  3. Todd Glassey has 30+ years of Security and Information Processing experience, and contributes to many governance groups. Glassey has been silenced and threatened with further censure for making proposals regarding policy on IETF copyrights and patents.
  4. JFC Morfin is a leader of INTLnet since 1978 and a promient voice in networking and governance for many, many years. Morfin was silenced for opposing a controversial draft in the LTRU Working Group.

Anderson, Bernstein, Glassey, and Morfin have only engaged in reasonable opposition to certain schemes and activities under their rights as member participants in the Internet Society, Inc (ISOC)'s IETF Activity. We are strongly opposed to the silencing of whistleblowers. The PR Action (RFC3683) is contrary to ISOC bylaws, but still requires a consensus which did not exist for either Anderson or Morfin. Review of the IETF list records shows that Anderson won the consensus 15-2.

We believe that these actions by certain IETF Officials, which only promote proprietary business interests instead of the interests of the ISOC or IETF Activity, seriously threatens the "fair and open" nature of the IETF Activity of the ISOC. The ISOC is a non-profit, tax exempt Internet Standards body organized to promote the public interest in orderly internet governance through standards.

We, the undersigned, believe that the unjustified interference in the communications of members and disruption of the legitimate membership rights of these people is contrary to the ISOC rules, bylaws and law because there was no fair hearing, no neutral decisionmaking body, and no vote of the membership, and no consensus. The bans are inherently unfair and contrary to the Charter and purpose of the Internet Society.
